*Note - The Community-Driven Archives (CDA) Initiative blog will be on hiatus until February 2021*

CDA will like to wish everyone Happy Holidays, and that everyone enjoys a safe social distance holiday. Even though we cannot see many of our loved ones during this holiday season remember we are making the right choice by staying in our households. Make sure you follow these guidelines (here) to lower the spread of COVID-19 so we can keep our families and communities healthy. This year has taken so much away from us, and we will remember any loved ones and community members taken from us too soon. If you need any support please reach out to Mutual Aid Phx or to donate supplies that are needed, we are here to help each other.

I wanted to deep dive into the BJ Bud collection, the largest LGBTQ+ collection in Arizona, to find holiday photos. I found mostly Christmas photos, but the photos occurred during the months of December and July in the 1980’s.

During the holiday season, it is important to be conscious in our actions when it comes to our gift buying or even buying ourselves things. Many small businesses went out of business during the pandemic and it is upsetting to me knowing  big corporations like Amazon net income increased by $5.2 billion. When we support small and local businesses you are helping an actual person who needs that money, not some CEO like Jeff Bezo who makes about $152,207 per minute. I do not want to know how much more he makes compared to me. However, here is a small list of BIPOC local phoenix business as well as other small businesses I compiled:
