Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Lao Studies

Papers in this volume address topics in the arts and humanities, the social sciences and the sciences across five major themes:

  • language, literacy and information access
  • preservation and reinterpretation of material and visual texts
  • discourses of history
  • dynamics of cultivation, economics, and sustainable practices
  • issues of gender and ethnicity: marginalization and adaptation

Theoretical approaches necessary to the understanding of the rich and complex social and cultural contexts are analyzed in numerous papers, and many others suggest best practices. Includes maps, tables, illustrations and index.

Praise for this book

An eclectic smorgasboard, this volume represents another important and exciting step forward in the establishment of Lao studies as a viable field of scholarship in its own right.
