Timeline
1932: President Herbert Hoover adds over 300 square miles to the park through a second Grand Canyon National Monument proclamation, Presidential Proclamation 2022, December 22, 1932.
1933: The first Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp, Company 819, is established at the Grand Canyon. The CCC continued to be a transforming presence at the park until 1942.
1935: Bright Angel Lodge opens on the South Rim.
1938: Professionally-outfitted river trips begin on the Colorado River within Grand Canyon National Park.
