1885 - 1891: William W. Bass develops wagon road to Bass Camp from Williams; improves Havasupai Trail, known as Mystic Spring Trail (later South Bass Trail), from Bass Camp to Darwin Plateau; files with county as a toll road; prospects in the Canyon; and begins to bring tourists to the Canyon.
1890 - 1891: Pete Berry, Bob Ferguson, Curtis McClure, Millard Love, and Niles Cameron build “Bright Angel Toll Road” from rim to Indian Garden. Toll trail is filed with county in Berry’s name.
1893: President Benjamin Harrison establishes Grand Canyon Forest Reserve under Presidential Proclamation 349, February 20, 1893.
1894: William W. Bass and George Wharton James use lantern slides in lectures across the country to promote the Grand Canyon.
1901: Train service begins between Williams, Arizona Territory and the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
