1917 - 1928

1917: Wylie Way Camp opens at the North Rim’s Bright Angel Point.

1919: President Woodrow Wilson establishes Grand Canyon National Park under the act of February 26, 1919 (40 Stat. 1175). NPS assumes administrative control from Forest Service, August 15, 1919.

1920: Fred Harvey Company is named a concessionaire for Grand Canyon National Park.

1925: During the 1925-26 travel season, visitors arriving by automobiles (72,500) surpass those arriving by train (65,500).

1928: The National Park Service acquires Bright Angel Trail and ceases to be a toll road.
