1902 - 1903

1902:    

  • The first automobile, a Toledo Eight Horse, arrives in the Grand Canyon.
  • Francois Matthes maps the Grand Canyon of the Colorado.
  • Henry Peabody publishes his photographic essay: “Glimpses of the Grand Canyon of Arizona".

1903:

  • The Fred Harvey Company hires Mary Colter as architect.
  • Cameron’s Hotel & Camps opens, which is today a Bright Angel Lodge cabin.  The Kolb Brothers open a photographic studio in a tent beside Cameron’s Hotel.
  • Cameron imposes a one dollar toll on use of Bright Angel Trail.
  • Cameron’s Indian Garden Camp opens.
