Author T. R. Hummer

A chapbook of poems by T.R. Hummer. Hummer's tenth book of poems, "Ephemeron" (LSU Press), appeared in 2011; his eleventh, "Skandalon" (LSU Press) was published in 2014. The author of two books of essays ("The Muse in the Machine: Essays on Poetry and the American Body Politic," (UGA Press 2006); and "Available Surfaces: Essays on Poesis," UMP 2012), Hummer has served as editor-in-chief of several literary quarterlies, including the Kenyon Review, New England Review, and the Georgia Review. His career in the domain of letters has led him to teaching positions at seven universities and to such honors as a Guggenheim Fellowship in Poetry, a National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellowship, the Hanes Poetry Prize, the Richard Wright Award for Artistic Excellence, and two Pushcart Prizes. Outside of academia, he has worked as a saxophonist and a songwriter, most recently collaborating with musician Billy Cioffi on AmeriCamera, a conversation between poetry and rock music, resulting in a cd (Highminded, Electric Lotus Music 2010) and a video which won a bronze Telly Award and was a finalist for a Rocky Mountain Emmy.

T. R. Hummer is a professor emeritus of English (creative writing) at Arizona State University.
