Hacking Language
Subtitle
A Primer for Prospective Polyglots
A funny, practical, and refreshingly honest guide to learning languages without the gimmicks.
Drawing from decades as a military linguist, language teacher, and student of languages including Russian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, French, and German, Michael Hacker explores how language learning really works—from grammar and vocabulary to immersion, fluency, and culture.
Part memoir, part primer, and part field guide, Hacking Language is designed for curious beginners, aspiring polyglots, and anyone who wants to better understand language, culture, and the human language-learning machine.
No miracle shortcuts.
No “fluency in 7 days” nonsense.
Just real-world language learning.
