Oli's Sensory Safari

Join Oli, a curious and adventurous boy on the autism spectrum, as he embarks on a vibrant sensory safari! From vibrations to echoes, Oli explores the world in his own unique way — through sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste. This beautifully illustrated children's book invites young readers to understand and appreciate sensory differences, encouraging empathy, inclusion, and self-awareness.

Written by autism advocate and ASU alumna Trina McKinney, Oli’s Sensory Safari is a heartfelt story inspired by her own son. It’s a perfect read for classrooms, families, and therapists seeking to create conversations around autism, sensory needs, and embracing every child’s perspective.

Bio

I’m Trina McKinney — an author, autism advocate, and proud graduate of Arizona State University. I earned my Master’s in Special Education with a focus on Autism Spectrum Disorders, along with a graduate certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis, all through ASU’s supportive and engaging online programs. My journey as a mother to a child on the autism spectrum inspired me to write Oli’s Sensory Safari, a children’s book that helps young readers understand sensory processing and celebrate neurodiversity. My time at ASU provided me with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to transform my personal experiences into a professional purpose. Today, I use both my education and lived experience to support other families and spread awareness through storytelling.
