In this series titled “Dispatches from the Field” we highlight stories from members of the Arizona State University (ASU) Library and the Community-Driven Archives (CDA) team regarding the work we are doing at ASU Library and the work library and archives professionals are doing associated with community archiving. We want to welcome you back to ASU and update you on some exciting events upcoming for the CDA team. For the month of September we have one event and one webinar with the Arizona Library Association (AzLA) Professional Development Committee scheduled.

Our webinar with AzLA titled Engaging, Educating, and Empowering: Community-Driven Archives presented by myself and my colleague Alana Varner will take place September 10, 2020 at 1:00 pm (MST). During this webinar, Alana and I will be discussing the CDA initiative here at ASU Library and discuss in detail the work we do in community archiving with the LatinX, Black, Asian & Pacific Islander, Indigenous and LGBTQ communities of Arizona. Please follow our social media pages, links below, for additional information regarding the event and if you are interested in attending the registration to attend this webinar can be found here.

Our CDA event scheduled for this month we are super excited to share with you. This event titled ASU Latin@ History Virtual Tour is scheduled for September 22, 2020 at 6:00 pm (MST). Join Dr. Christine Marin, founder of the Chicano/a Research Collection at ASU Library, as she leads a virtual tour that highlights important historical landmarks on the ASU Tempe Campus. Tour highlights include the Interdisciplinary Building A, Memorial Union, Chicano Bush, Danforth Chapel, Old Main, and the Old Church. Dr. Marin has done this tour every year for the last 9 years, see this video from the tour she did in October 2019. We look forward to adapting this tour to the virtual world and cannot wait to hear from Dr. Marin and her extensive knowledge of Chicano/a history here at ASU. Please register here to get the Zoom link to attend the event. Hope to see you at each of these events!

Contact me, Jessica Salow, with feedback at Jessica.Salow@asu.edu, as I would love to hear from you your thoughts regarding the work we here at ASU are doing in community archiving around Arizona. We also want your feedback on what you would like to see from us in future blog posts. And if you would like regular updates from the CDA team please follow our CDA Facebook page or the CDA Instagram page to keep abreast of the virtual events we are doing monthly. We have also made some changes to our website to better describe the community-driven archives initiative at ASU Library so please visit that page to learn more about our work or to connect with the rest of our team.

See you soon!
