ASU Library welcomes all Arizona K-12 teachers for tours, workshops, and information literacy instruction at any of the ASU campus libraries. Many first year students report feeling overwhelmed by the number of online resources and conducting research. One way to alleviate this anxiety and improve the transition for your students is to give them an academic library research experience while they're still in high school. ASU Library K-12 instructional services are specifically designed to help students transition from high school to academic research environments, aid in the development of important information literacy skills, and to support students' research projects and needs.
Individual student visits
ASU Library is open to the public, and Arizona high school students are free to use the print and online collections during all open hours at any location. In order to access electronic resources students will need to bring a personal device and sign up for guest wifi access. Guest access requires a mobile phone number, so students should gain permission from their adult when signing up. Librarians are available in all library locations or online to help students with their research.
Group visits
Teachers working with their classes on special projects or assignments that require library resources can schedule a group visit with their students. After requesting a group library visit, a librarian will be in contact for a consultation on what services would best support the students and learning goals. During visits, librarians can provide an overview of project-specific resources, guide students through brainstorming keywords, searching in databases, evaluating online information, citing sources, and more. These sessions are team taught and developed collaboratively with the teacher.
