A Collection of Artworks
Edited by Dillon Briggs, Christiana Shafer, Brooke Owen, Brianna Orrill, Alexandra Cook, Adriana Talamante and Abigail Weibel
A collection of artistic and creative works from the ASU-led NASA Psyche Mission's 2017–18 Psyche Inspired interns. This downloadable book tells the story of Psyche (both the mission and the asteroid) through musical scores, sculptures, painting, 3D models, photography, acrylic art, needlepoint, stop-motion films and mixed media.
The Psyche mission is a NASA orbiter on a journey to a metal asteroid, also called Psyche, which orbits the sun between Mars and Jupiter. This asteroid is unique because it appears to be the exposed nickel-iron core of an early planet, one of the building blocks of our solar system. It will also be the first metal world ever explored. The spacecraft is scheduled to launch in 2022, and it will arrive at the asteroid in 2026.
The Psyche mission will give humans the first opportunity to view and explore one of the building blocks of our solar system. Together, the two Psyches (the mission and the asteroid) provide a special opportunity for inspiring the public and encouraging people worldwide to dream, innovate, and explore in their own lives. Psyche Inspired is a program that brings undergraduate students together to share the excitement, innovation, and scientific and engineering content of NASA’s Psyche mission with the public through artistic and creative works.
