Fitness for Life (6th ed.)
"Fitness for Life (6th ed.)" is a high school physical-education text to teach concepts and self-management skills that promote good fitness, health and wellness throughout life. This evidence-based program includes 21 chapters designed to help students master self-management skills such as self-assessment, planning and monitoring, goal setting, time management, and personal portfolio creation. The book emphasizes the many types of physical activity in the Physical Activity Pyramid and explores the FITT Formula (Frequency, Intensity, Time, Type) for each. Other healthy lifestyles such as eating well and managing stress are also highlighted.
Based on the HELP philosophy (Health for Everyone for Lifetime in a very Personal way), the text uses the Stairway to Fitness, Health and Wellness to illustrate the need for helping students move from dependence to independent problem solving and decisions making. Versions of the book have been in publication since 1979. The text earned the Texty Award for excellence from the Text and Academic Authors Association.
