In this series titled “Dispatches from the Field” we highlight stories from members of the Arizona State University (ASU) Library and the Community-Driven Archives (CDA) team regarding a number of activities we here at ASU Library are working on or involved with that is associated with the work of community archiving. As the library profession continues to respond in tremendous ways to COVID-19 pandemic situation, I would like to take a moment to highlight some of the resources ASU has to offer our students and communities affected by the social distancing recommendations proposed by the CDC. The ASU Library, beginning March 31, 2020, will be open ONLY for remote services. Library books and materials are still available for checkout and can be requested online at the ASU Library website and can be conveniently picked up at Hayden Library on Tempe campus (south entrance across from Memorial Union) Monday-Friday from 1pm to 3 pm and please bring your Sun Card or Pitchfork card. Due dates for library items have been extended and any accrued fines will be waived during this time.

Additionally, our Ask a Librarian Chat and Text Service where a member of the ASU Library staff can assist you with questions you may have regarding library services at this time has extended its hours to Monday-Thursday from 8 am to 9 pm and Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. In addition to the many great resources above, we here at ASU Library also have subject and course guides created by librarians at ASU Library. One we would like to highlight is the COVID-19 Resources for Indigenous Peoples created by the Labriola Center in collaboration with Indigenous communities.

Finally, last week ASU announced the ASU for You service to assist “Universal Learners” with educational resources from all aspects of the ASU community. ASU Library is doing its part to assist with this mission by offering a curated collection of digital learning resources at low or no cost to universal learners. Find resources like Project Gutenberg, Arizona Memory Project and more from this collection offered by ASU Library at the links above.

And please follow that page for communication from the CDA team regarding events we are hosting or involved with around the state.

Contact me, Jessica Salow, with feedback at Jessica.Salow@asu.edu, as I would love to hear from you your thoughts regarding the work we here at ASU are doing in community archiving around Arizona. We also want your feedback on what you would like to see from us in future blog posts. See you next week!
