- There is no limit on the number of books that can be checked out at one time.
- The number of items you may check out from specialized collections such as videos, microforms and reserves varies from library to library.
- It is your responsibility to check your account regularly for overdues, recalls, etc.
- Proxies are allowed.
- Photo ID (preferably Sun Card) is required for each transaction.
- Borrowing privileges and access to some online services (renewal, recall, etc.) are denied if you have fines/fees. See
Overdue/Billable - Report lost or stolen cards to the library.
Returning Library Materials
Most materials may be returned to any ASU Libraries location, regardless of which library they were checked out from. Each library has an interior book return (or "book drop") located near the circulation/check out desk, and there are also several exterior book returns that are available 24/7. - Renewals may also be done by bringing the materials to any ASU Library Circulation Desk or by using Telephone Renewal.
- Reserves, media and microforms are not renewable. Bring them to any ASU Library Circulation Desk to inquire about extending your loan.
Recalls
- Most checked-out items can be recalled.
- Recall policies apply to all users and are in effect all year long including breaks, sabbaticals, vacations, etc.
- The library sends a notice when an item checked out to you has been requested by another borrower. See Notices.
- Recalls are due fifteen (15) days after the request. If there is a queue for the item the loan period is 14 days.
- For some users a recall represents a shortened loan period.
- If the library is closed use one of the exterior book drops.
- A $10.00 fine plus replacement fee is charged for items not returned by the Recall Due Date.
- The replacement fee is canceled if/when the item is returned undamaged.
- Recall fines are strictly enforced.
Overdue/Billable
- Overdue reminders are sent as a courtesy and failure to receive one, for whatever reason, does not remove your responsibility for meeting each due date or paying subsequent fines.
- You are responsible for keeping your email and mailing address current with the library.
- Accounts are blocked 30 days after the due date. Once an account is blocked renewals can only be done through Telephone Renewal or the Blocked Accounts page.

- If you believe an item charged to your account has been returned, please contact the owning library.
- Failure to return library materials and pay overdue fees may result in further collection procedures, including the possibility of action by a Collection Agency.
