"The Only Good Indians"

Book Review by Lourdes Pereira

Indigenize your Spooky Season by adding “The Only Good Indians” to your book collection. This book will scare you beyond your imagination, full of graphic gory scenes and heart stopping moments. Taking place on and off the Blackfeet reservation, we follow the story of 4 Blackfeet men and the biggest mistake they’ll ever make in their lives that leads to the awakening of Elk Woman. I am not someone who usually reads horror stories but this author did an incredible job of keeping you on the edge of your seat, making you want to know what happens next. There’s something in this book for everyone, humor that blends well in relatable experiences of reservation life and heavy emphasis on “Rez Ball”. If you're not from the reservation this is still an easy book to follow and gives you good insight into that way of living. Jones broke the rules of horror fiction, which makes this book truly stand out from other other horror novels. You’ll find yourself becoming a little paranoid, looking over your shoulder to make sure you didn't see yellow eyes watching you from outside and towards the movements you think you'll be seeing from the darkest corners of your homes. Smoking yourself off after you finish this book is something I recommend. The best tip I could give you is to NOT READ THIS BOOK AT NIGHT. If so, good luck.
