Guidelines and Regulations
Due to the upcoming renovation of Hayden Library, the faculty study carrel program will end as of August 31, 2017.
Carrels will be assigned according to the following priorities:
- Doctoral students writing dissertations
- Doctoral students studying for comprehensives
Carrels are only available at Hayden Library.
NOTE: Carrels are not renewable for 2017-18. It will not be possible to provide graduate study carrels elsewhere during Hayden Library renovation, starting in Summer 2017.
Assignments will be made shortly following the start of the Fall semester. Notification will be by email, phone or mail. Failure to pick up by designated date will result in reassignment of the carrel.
Noble Library also has a short term checkout service for individual study rooms. Any ASU affiliate may check out a study by going to the Information Desk in the Noble Library lobby. Study users are responsible for returning the key to the Information Desk. Late return fees will apply. Fees are listed on the key tag. A return receipt is recommended.
Use of Carrels
Carrels may be assigned to two graduate students, who may or may not know each other. Please be courteous, clean, orderly, and accommodating. If a serious conflict of schedule occurs, please see the Administrative Assistant for Access Services at Hayden’s Information & Check Out Desk.
Please do not leave any open food or drink containers in the carrels. Any such items will be removed.
The key given to you should not be passed to another person. There is a replacement charge, currently $20.00, for a lost key.
Important: In order that all patrons have equal access to the library collection, no library material may be kept in carrels overnight unless those materials are checked out to your ID. Carrels (and study desks) are opened and examined by library personnel on a regular basis. Unchecked material will be removed immediately and placed back in the stacks.
Repeated violations of any of the above guidelines will result in the revocation of the carrel privilege.

Caution: Since your carrel is not a secured enclosure, the library cannot be responsible for the loss or theft of any items left in the carrel, including library materials charged to you.
