Ranked #1 for innovation three years in a row by U.S. News and World Report, Arizona State University has become the model for higher education. Serving as a critical gateway to the university’s growing research enterprise, ASU Library is actively engaged in building a 21st century academic library that reflects ASU’s vision of excellence through its accessibility and impact.
To this end, ASU Library seeks a highly motivated, collaborative and service-oriented librarian to lead its newly established Social Sciences Division, comprised of a diverse team of librarians actively engaged with students, faculty and the community in innovative ways.
The Social Sciences Division Head, one of three division heads (Social Sciences, STEM and Humanities), will report to the Associate University Librarian for Engagement and Learning Services, and will oversee a team of librarians embedded in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, along with other constituents across the ASU campuses.
This leader will consistently provide a creative solutions-based approach to both new and traditional library services, and will model, explore and enact fresh workflows that both challenge and invite librarians to deliver high-level service through liaising, embedding, workshopping, innovating, teaching and participating in research with students, faculty and the community university-wide.
The successful candidate will help to create a positive, dynamic service atmosphere, fueled by opportunity and trust, and will contribute to an organizational growth mindset by encouraging learning and experimentation. This leader will provide open door availability along with substantive and timely evaluative feedback as needed for all team members. She/he must work successfully with campus partners across ASU departments and institutes, and seek to build strong relationships with ASU faculty, across disciplines and programs, in an effort to advance research and student learning.
Most critically, the Social Sciences Division Head will be committed to students’ academic success at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
A center of energy, imagination and innovation, ASU Library is home to nine library facilities across five ASU campus locations – providing students and faculty access to millions of information resources, world-class collections, outstanding study spaces, advanced data centers and a suite of makerspaces and creative services. ASU Library is a strong supporter of student success and a critical partner in realizing the New American University mission of access, excellence and impact. More information about the library can be found at lib.asu.edu/about.
