Graduate Study Carrels - Hayden Library

Graduate Study Carrels

Guidelines and Regulations

Click to apply for a Graduate Study Carrel.

Assignment

Carrels will be assigned according to the following priorities:

  1. Doctoral students writing dissertations
  2. Doctoral students studying for comprehensives

Carrels are only available at Hayden Library.

Assignments will be made shortly following the start of the Fall semester. Notification will be by email, phone or mail. Failure to pick up by designated date will result in reassignment of the carrel.

Hayden and Noble Libraries have a daily/hourly checkout service for individual study rooms. Some studies are designated for daily use, while others have a four hour maximum. Any ASU affiliate may check out a study by going to the Circulation Desk in Hayden Library or to the Information Desk in the Noble Library lobby. Study users are responsible for returning the key to the Circulation or Information Desk. Late return fees will apply. Fees are listed on the key tag. A return receipt is recommended.

Use of Carrels

Carrels may be assigned to two graduate students, who may or may not know each other. Please be courteous, clean, orderly, and accommodating. If a serious conflict of schedule occurs, please see the Administrative Assistant for Access Services at Hayden’s Circulation Desk.

Library policy requires that there be no food or drink in the carrels. Any such items will be removed.

The key given to you should not be passed to another person. There is a replacement charge, currently $20.00, for a lost key.

Important: In order that all patrons have equal access to the library collection, no library material may be kept in carrels overnight unless those materials are checked out to your ID. Carrels (and study desks) are opened and examined by library personnel on a regular basis. Unchecked material will be removed immediately and placed back in the stacks.

Repeated violations of any of the above guidelines will result in the revocation of the carrel privilege.
